MACOMB, Ill. - The IUPUI men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped and suffered its first Summit League setback of the season when it dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Western Illinois on Saturday (Oct. 15). Alexis Dominguez netted the game-winner in the 93rd minute after senior goalkeeper
Tyler Keever made a stop on Husref Jupic's initial attempt, but was unable to stop the rebound try.
The goal was the first allowed by the Jaguars' defense in more than 407 straight minutes.
IUPUI (4-8-2, 1-1-1 Summit) fired a season-high 19 shots, including putting seven on target, but was unable to get one past WIU goalkeeper Andy Ryan. It took Western Illinois (7-5-1, 2-1 Summit) 22 attempts to finally solve Keever on its final attempt of the day.
Western kept the heat on the Jaguars, getting 11 corner kicks which led to numerous dangerous opportunities. Kooten Johnson had back-to-back attempts at Keever in the 14th minute and Dominguez tested Keever with a strike in the 40th minute.
IUPUI came out on the offensive to start the second stanza, including a shot by
Yogi Snider that flew high and a second by
Matt Guy that was wide of the post. Junior
Ian Munro also had two attempts late in regulation, one that was blocked and the second that went wide.
Charlie Bales led all players with seven shot attempts and
Kyle Hyland paced IUPUI with four shots. Munro, Agaba, Snider and
Tyler Thatcher all had three attempts. Keever finished with a season-high eight saves, falling one shy of tying his career-high.
The loss kept the Jaguars winless on the road this season, moving to 0-6-2 in true road matches. All four of IUPUI's wins have come at Kuntz Stadium this season.
The Jaguars will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they step out of conference to take on Cleveland State in Northeast Ohio at 7:00 p.m..
