MUNCIE, Ind. -- The IUPUI volleyball team struggling offensively on Tuesday night, falling 3-0 to Ball State at Worthen Arena.  The Jaguars hit .112 in the match with 30 kills, compared to a .289 clip with 46 kills for the Cardinals in the 19-25, 22-25, 11-25 loss.

IUPUI (1-8) failed to put a player over the 10-kill plateau, as Dana Gardner and Lindsey Weber each had 8 kills for the Jags.

The Jaguars raced out of the gates, opening a 7-2 lead over the host Cardinals.  Shari Bernhardt, named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, got the run started with an ace, and Gardner helped with the next three points, recording a solo block, a kill and a block assist with Brittany Anglemyer.

After a Ball State (7-0) timeout, the Cardinals slowly whittled away the Jaguar lead.  An 8-4 run knotted the opening set, and an ace and Kelsey Brandl kill gave Ball State their first lead of the set, 16-14.  The momentum carried through an IUPUI timeout, as BSU took seven of the next 11 points in taking a 25-19 first set win.

In the second set, it was the Jaguars who jumped out to an early lead once again, as they took a 6-1 lead on the backs of a Weber kill, Alexis Meeks kill, and an Anglemyer service ace.  Still, Ball State rallied, doubling up IUPUI in a 10-5 run that knotted the set.

The teams traded points over the next 21 points, with IUPUI holding the lead on four separate occasions, the last at 19-18 after a Cardinal service error.  However, Ball State took the next two points to assume the lead for good in a 25-22 win.

Ball State was the team that got off to a strong start in the third set, racing out to a 10-5 lead and never looking back, sweeping the set and match, 25-11.

The Jaguars will open their Summit League slate on Friday, Sept. 10, when they venture to Tulsa, Okla., to meet Oral Roberts.  The match will begin at 8 p.m. ET.
