INDIANAPOLIS -- Needing a win to stay in the hunt for the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational title, the IUPUI volleyball team fell short against Austin Peay, dropping a 3-0 decision Sunday afternoon at The Jungle.  The Jaguars hit just .057 in the 16-25, 22-25, 9-25 defeat.

IUPUI (1-5) hung with Austin Peay (6-1) early, taking a 7-5 lead in the opening set after a block by Brittany Anglemyer and Alexis Meeks.  From there, though, the Lady Govs doubled up the Jaguars, 14-7, taking a 19-14 lead after a Nikki Doyle service ace.

Looking to knot the match at a set apiece, IUPUI went toe to toe with Austin Peay in the second after falling behind early in the set.  A timeout at 10-5, Austin Peay, seemed to settle the Jaguars, and they worked their way back into the set on the strength of their defense.

Shari Bernhardt had 8 digs in the set, while Lindsey Weber chipped in 5, as the Jags went on a 7-2 run to tie the set at 12.  Kalyse Reimbold had back-to-back aces in the middle of the run, and a Dana Gardner/Jessica Phelps block knotted the set at 12.

Counterpunching, Austin Peay responded with five of the next seven points, opening a four-point lead and forcing IUPUI into a timeout.  Once again, the timeout paid dividends for the Jaguars, as they closed within 23-22 after an ace from Reimbold and kill by Gardner.

Needing another point on their service to knot the set, the Jaguars were unable to convert, as kills from Jessica Mollman and Nikki Doyle gave Austin Peay a 2-0 lead in the match.

Seemingly spent from their comeback effort, the Jags struggled in the third, hitting just -.100 as Austin Peay tallied 4 blocks.  Still, IUPUI's defensive effort was there throughout, as the Jags tallied 23 digs in the set, led by the 6 of Meeks and Moriah Fair, who saw her first action of the season in the third set.

The Jaguars can still finish third in their tournament, needing a win against Wright State.  The match will start at 5:30 p.m. ET, will Rich Coleman providing play-by-play on IUPUI Live! beginning at 5:25 p.m. ET.
