INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team allowed a first half penalty kick and continued to struggle to find offense as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision to Indiana State at Kuntz Stadium on Friday night. Offensively, IUPUI mustered just six shots and was unable to put any on goal as Indiana State rolled to its sixth straight victory.
ISU (6-2) got all the offense it would need in the 32nd minute, thanks to an IUPUI (2-6) miscue. An errant pass in the defensive third resulted in ISU's Casey Clark getting loose on a breakaway. Given no other choice, freshman goalkeeper
Kristin Haseley came off her line and swept Clark off her feet just outside the penalty box. The Sycamores were awarded a penalty kick, which resulted in Alison Gasparovich's third goal of the season.
The Jaguars had few opportunities as
Megan Hock accounted for the bulk of IUPUI's chances. In the 54th minute, Hock had a strike from 15 yards out sail high of frame. Midway through the second half, freshman
Sarah Colby played a lead pass to Hock, who was making a run up the middle of the field. Hock seemed to get on the end of the ball at the same time as ISU goalkeeper Emily Lahay and a Sycamore defender arrived. Hock was upended on the play and the ball trickled away harmlessly before Lahay could pounce on it.
Hock had three of the Jags' six shot attempts while
Alicia Brock tried two.
ISU outshot the hosts 16-6 with Gasparovich and Ashley Collins each trying a game-high four attempts.
Haseley was the tough luck loser as she made one save and allowed the goal before giving way to freshman
Giselle Guzman at halftime. Guzman made three saves in a scoreless second half.
IUPUI will continue its homestand on Sunday when it hosts Kent State at 1:00 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium. In addition, a pregame IYS STARS Clinic will take place on the East Field, beginning at noon. For more information on the Indiana Youth Soccer STARS Program or to sign up for Sunday's clinic,
