INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI volleyball team fell to Summit League foe Oakland in three sets on Friday evening. The Jaguars hit only .087 in the 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) loss.
IUPUI had to play catch up in all three sets. Down 7-3 in the first set, 5-0 in the second set and 7-2 in the third set, the Jaguars were resilient but could not come up with a win in any sets.
Lindsey Weber, who had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, put away a ball from Kalyse Reimbold to get IUPUI (2-10, 1-2 Summit League) within a point at 21-20, but Oakland scored the next four points to win the set.
Led by the play of Meghan Gray, who had a game-high 20 kills, the Grizzlies (6-7, 1-1 Summit League) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set.
The Jaguars were able to take their first lead of the set and match (16-15) on a Weber kill. With IUPUI leading 18-17, Oakland rattled off five straight points and never looked back taking the set 25-20.
Dana Gardner, who hit a team-high .217 for the match, knotted the third set at 13, but the Jaguars were outscored 12-5 from that point forward.
The Jaguars will continue Summit League play in the Jungle at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 18) against IPFW.
Game Notes: Alexis Meeks led IUPUI with 23 kills. IUPUI's 60 team digs were overshadowed by Oakland's 78.
