IUPUI-Evansville Box Score
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The IUPUI volleyball team could not stop the Evansville attack on Friday evening, falling 3-0 in their first match of the 2010 season. Thought the Jaguars had 54 digs, the Purple Aces hit .307 to hand IUPUI a 20-25, 20-25, 13-25 defeat.
IUPUI (0-1) had a balanced attack, as
Kalyse Reimbold,
Lindsey Weber and
Brittany Anglemyer each had six kills. Anglemyer, in her first collegiate match, paced the Jaguars with a .308 hitting percentage. Fellow freshman
Alexis Meeks had 26 assists.
Defensively, libero
Shari Bernhardt posted 16 digs; Reimbold had 11.
With three newcomers appearing in the game as
Bethany Fogler joined Anglemyer and Meeks, the Jaguars and Evansville (1-0) traded points over the first 13 services before a Viera Rajcan service ace put the Purple Aces ahead, 13-10.Â
IUPUI would battle back within a point on three occasions, the last on an Anglemyer kill to make the score 15-16, but a 3-0 run put Evansville back in control of the game, which they won, 25-20.
The Jaguars jumped out to an early lead in game two, but the Purple Aces scored 13 of the game's next 18 points to take a 13-7 lead. Kills from
Nicole Ramey,
Dana Gardner and Meeks helped IUPUI close the deficit to four at 21-17, but once again, the Jags ran out of time, as Evansville took a commanding 2-0 lead.
Evansville's momentum from the second set carried over into the third, as the Purple Aces raced out to a 12-3 lead. The Jaguars hit just -.042 in the final set, leading to a 25-13 loss.
IUPUI will look to rebound on Saturday, when they wrap up the MSU Showcase with matches against Michigan State and Bowling Green. The Jaguars will face the Spartans at noon, and after a break, will play the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. ET.
