Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS – Strong serving led the IUPUI volleyball team to a first-set win over Oral Roberts, but the Jaguars were unable to hold off the Golden Eagles and Oral Roberts proceeded to take sets two, three, and four to defeat IUPUI, 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 22-25, 14-25), Saturday evening at The Jungle.
While Reimbold’s kill-dig double-double was impressive, it was her serving that led IUPUI to a first-set win. With the Jaguars trailing 15-11 in the opening set, Reimbold led IUPUI on a nine-point rally that reversed a four-point deficit into a five-point lead, 20-15. During that stretch, Reimbold only recorded one ace but forced the Golden Eagles out of system offensively, which switched the momentum. Still leading by five points, 24-19, it was only fitting that a Reimbold kill closed out a 25-19 opening-set victory for the Jaguars.
Similar to the opening set, Oral Roberts held on to a three-point lead mid-way through the set at 13-10, before IUPUI made a run. Kills by Reimbold and Gardner coupled with a trio of Golden Eagles attack errors helped the Jaguars knot the score at 15, but five IUPUI miscues down the stretch proved to be too much to overcome as Oral Roberts tied the match at one set apiece with a 25-17 second-set win.
The trend continued in the third set with the Jaguars falling behind by as many as seven points, 11-4, but IUPUI slowly chipped away at the deficit and cut it to two points, 24-22, courtesy of three kills by Reimbold, a kill by
Bethany Fogler, and a kill by Gardner down the stretch. Despite having the momentum on its side, a kill by ORU’s Serena Cate ended IUPUI’s comeback and cemented a 25-22 Golden Eagles win in the third set.
Two kills by Fogler, a kill by Gardner, and a kill and an ace from Reimbold kept the Jaguars within two points, 9-7, of Oral Roberts early in the fourth set, but an eight-point surge behind the serving of Bruna Silva widened the Golden Eagles lead to 10 points, 18-8. From that point, ORU captured the fourth set, 25-14.
With the loss, IUPUI fell to 7-20 overall and 6-9 in the Summit League, while Oral Roberts improved to 10-12 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
The Jaguars return to the floor on Friday, Nov. 5, when they travel to Oakland, before heading to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on in-state rival IPFW on Saturday Nov. 6. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
