INDIANAPOLIS - Just over 30 minutes into Sunday afternoon's match at Kuntz Stadium, it appeared as though the IUPUI women's soccer team would breeze past UMKC - literally. With a stiff wind at its back, the Jaguars scored three early goals and dominated possession for the majority of the match. However, UMKC clawed back with late first half and early second half goals before eventually falling to the Jaguars, 3-2.

IUPUI (6-6, 2-0 Summit) won its fourth-in-a-row and clawed back to .500 for the first time this season. Freshman Sarah Colby scored the game-winning goal and added an assist while Alicia Brock and Ashley Doreski also netted scores.

The Jaguars struck first in the 11th minute when Brock was able to sneak a shot just inside the left post for her second goal in as many games. Junior Megan Hock played a short pass to Brock, who was stationed around the edge of the six-yard box. Brock was able to tap a shot that originally appeared to be saved, but was later ruled a goal after the referee conferred with his linesman.

"It was very important to score first and get that first goal," IUPUI Head Coach #Chris Johnson# said. "That helped establish what we wanted to do, especially against a young team that's trying to find itself. It was very key for us to get an early goal and that really helped us get those three first half goals."

Less than three minutes later, the Jaguars made it 2-0 when Colby scored her third goal of the year off an assist from Chelsi McHenry. McHenry played a long throw-in that bounded over a slew of players before coming free to Colby on the backside of the play. The rookie hit a brilliant strike that tucked in the upper left-hand corner of the goal.

The Jags made it 3-0 in the 31st minute when Doreski was able to put away her first career goal after Colby played a long cross through the penalty area, hitting her on a diagonal run to the far post.

"Our intensity level was pretty high up there," Colby said. "I think we're just starting to click more. We're all just getting used to one another. Obviously, Alicia (Brock) and Megan (Hock) have played together for awhile, but I'm starting to get the hang of it."

However, UMKC (1-10, 0-2 Summit) stole some momentum when it finally pushed one past Giselle Guzman just before halftime. Taylor Bare fed Meagan Malloy, who's shot from just inside the 18-yard box beat Guzman to the far post for her second goal of the year.

"I thought that we'd be able to survive with a two goal advantage, but giving up that goal at the end of the first half gave them some energy that they didn't have to start the match," Johnson said. "That energy, along with the wind in the second half gave them the momentum. We had to really fight them off in the end."

"I think we got a little too confident," Colby said.

The second half saw UMKC on the attack for nearly the entire 45 minutes with the wind picking up speed during the second stanza. The Kangaroos made it 3-2 in the 60th minute as Bare got loose on a breakaway and was able to hit a shot past Kristin Haseley, who had come on in relief in goal at the start of the second half.

UMKC kept the heat on, but was unable to get anything else past Haseley. The Zionsville-native made a stop of a Malloy drive in the 75th minute to account for her last of three saves on the day. Guzman needed just one first half save to earn her third win of the season.

Jami Finnell made four saves in the loss for UMKC.

IUPUI outshot the 'Roos 15-14 with Hock's three attempts leading the way. Ashley Gann led all players with seven attempts.

The Jaguars will hit the road for the first time this season in Summit League play next weekend when it treks through the Dakotas for a two-game swing. Friday's 2009 Summit League finals rematch at South Dakota State is slated for 8:00 p.m. EST. It will mark the Jaguars' first road match since Sept. 12.
