Follow the Jaguars this Weekend
INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off hosting its first nationally-ranked team on Tuesday, the IUPUI volleyball team closes out its three-match homestand this weekend when it welcomes Centenary and Oral Roberts to The Jungle on Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30, respectively, for a pair of Summit League matches.
Friday’s match is Parents Night for the volleyball team as the parents of the players will be honored prior to the match for their support throughout the season.
In conclusion of the Parents Night recognition, the Jaguars will look to climb higher in the Summit League standings after a pair of road losses last weekend at South Dakota State and North Dakota State dropped IUPUI into eighth place in the standings.
Currently, IUPUI owns a 5-8 league mark, which is three games out of fourth place, while Centenary is winless at 0-12 and Oral Roberts has split its 12 matches and possesses a 6-6 conference record.
This weekend’s matches start a five-match conference stretch that provides the Jaguars the ability to get back into the hunt for a conference tournament berth. After playing Centenary and Oral Roberts this weekend, the Jaguars travel to play IPFW, who sits in first place in the Summit League standings at 11-2, and Oakland, who currently resides in the fourth-spot. IUPUI closes out its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 13, at home versus Western Illinois.
Earlier this season, the Jaguars opened conference play on the road at Oral Roberts and Centenary and dropped a three-set match to the Golden Eagles before responding with a three-set victory over the Ladies.
Dana Gardner led the Jaguars during that stretch hitting .313, and IUPUI will need two solid outings from its senior this weekend to help capture a pair of wins.
The Jaguars also will look to
Moriah Fair and
Kalyse Reimbold to continue their solid play. Fair did not see extensive time during the September trip to Centenary and Oral Roberts, but over the last three conference matches, she is averaging 3.2 kills per set to lead the team in addition to her 3.2 digs per set. Reimbold also is averaging 3.2 digs per set, while putting down 2.6 kills per set during that stretch.
Both matches for the weekend are set to begin at 7 p.m. Friday’s match against Centenary will be tape delayed on HomeTown Sports five times over the next week. The match between the Ladies and the Jaguars can be seen on HomeTown Sports on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., Nov. 2 at Noon, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m., Nov. 4 at 9 a.m., and Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
