Box Score

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The IUPUI volleyball team went the distance with South Dakota State but couldn't come away with the win falling 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-8, 18-16) at Frost Arena on Friday evening.

In the deciding fifth set, IUPUI took a 14-12 lead when South Dakota State committed two attack errors. However, two consecutive attack errors by Anglemyer wiped away IUPUI's two match point chances. Gardner's kill gave IUPUI another match point, but Ellyce Youngren's kill wiped away the Jaguars' third match point of the set. Moriah Fair helped the Jaguars fend off the Jackrabbits' first match point of the set, but consecutive kills by Youngren and Bailey Philippot put the match away for South Dakota State.

While the match didn't have the outcome IUPUI wanted, the Jaguars (6-17, 5-7 Summit) came out firing in the first set. With the score 16-10, IUPUI rattled off four straight points on two kills by Bethany Fogler, a kill by Moriah Fair and an ace from Kalyse Reimbold. Fogler finished with 10 kills in the match and hit a team-high .280. South Dakota State made the set interesting cutting IUPUI's lead to four points but the Jackrabbits lost the set on two straight errors.

South Dakota State (10-12, 6-6) bounced back in the second set with little resistance from IUPUI. The Jackrabbits opened up a 19-9 lead and put the set away on kills by Kaitlin Klingemann and Ellyce Youngren.

IUPUI bounced back taking the third set after the 10-minute intermission. Reimbold and Dana Gardner had kills to put the Jaguars up 24-22. The Jackrabbits fought off one set point when Klingemann put a ball away but Brittany Anglemyer's kill put the Jaguars up 2-1.

Any momentum the Jaguars built in the third set, was quickly put to a halt by the Jackrabbits. Ten straight points put South Dakota State up 11-2.
Six straight kills ended a set dominated by the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State had 19 kills in the set.

Fair led the Jaguars with 16 kills while Reimbold added 14 kills and a team-high 17 digs.

IUPUI continues its road trip in North Dakota at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
