CHARLESTON, Ill. - Competing in their second-to-last meet of the regular season, the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams each dropped their dual meet against Eastern Illinois on Saturday at the Ray Padovan Pool. The men fell, 176-79, while the women dropped a 167-94 decision.
The meet served as EIU's annual "Paint the Pool Pink" event, in which both teams raised funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Teams wore pink t-shirts at the event, and the pool deck was pink themed, as well.
In the pool, Elizabeth Bourgeois, Alexandra McCreight and Carrie Ford were IUPUI's lone winners in the meet, as the Jaguars took 10 other podium spots overall. Bourgeois, continuing her stellar freshman season, won the 200 free, just as she did a week ago at the IU Natatorium. This week, the newcomer hit the wall in 2:00.03, routing the competition by over three seconds.
Bourgeois finished with two other podiums, claiming third in the 200 butterfly and second in the 500 freestyle.
McCreight narrowly won the 200 fly, using a strong second 50 yards to stay ahead of her pursuers; her time of 2:16.34 won by a scant .06 second. The senior continued to come on strong in the latter part of the year, taking third in the 200 backstroke.
Ford, who was runner-up in the 1000 freestyle, won the 400 IM going away, coasting to a 15-second win by touching the wall in 4:52.33.
Kaitlyn Huhn took two runner-up finishes for the Jaguars, placing second in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
For the men, the Jaguars turned in 15 podiums, but could not crack the top spot.Â
Tyler McGowan led IUPUI with three podium finishes, the first of which came in the 200 free. Having taken third in a time of 1:51.37, the senior took second in both the 200 fly and 400 IM.
Steven Bretscher turned in two podium finishes, swimming both distance events and taking second in both the 1000 and 500 free. Â
The Jaguars will wrap up their regular season on Friday, Feb. 5, when they head to Greencastle, Ind., for a dual with DePauw and Butler (women only). The meet will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
