INDIANAPOLIS -- Coming off their first tournament title in four seasons, the IUPUI volleyball team will host the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational over Labor Day weekend. Miami University, Northwestern and Western Kentucky will comprise the four-team field, with matches beginning Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. ET.
IUPUI (4-0) put three players on the all-tournament team at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational a week ago, with
Danielle Goodnight taking MVP honors while
Monica Suding and
Lindsey Weber earned all-tournament recognition.
Goodnight also took home Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 147 assists over the four-match tournament.
In their opening match of the invitational, the Jaguars will meet the Lady Toppers of Western Kentucky (2-2) at 12:30 p.m.. WKU, the defending Sun Belt Conference champion, went 1-2 at the University of Tennessee Tournament a week ago before picking up a 3-2 win at Belmont during the week.
In the nightcap of the first day of tournament play, IUPUI will take on Northwestern at 7 p.m.. The Wildcats went 1-2 at the Kentucky Classic last weekend, falling to nationally-ranked Kentucky, along with Florida International. Northwestern will bring the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week, Katie Nobillo, to The Jungle. Nobillo recorded 65 digs over the three-match tournament at Kentucky.
The Jaguars will conclude the tournament with a match versus 2008 NCAA Tournament participant Miami University. The RedHawks enter the tournament with a 1-2 record, dropping matches to No. 1 Penn State and No. 19 St. Louis. Miami's lone win in the Active Ankle Invitational came against Alabama.
