INDIANAPOLIS -- With only one block on the evening, one would not expect the story of the night to be the IUPUI volleyball team's defense.  However, the Jaguars picked up 82 digs, aiding their 3-1 win over UMKC Friday night at The Jungle.

IUPUI (9-2, 2-0 Summit) had four players tally double-doubles in the match - three of whom picked up kill-dig double-doubles.  Kalyse Reimbold led the way with 14 kills - helping IUPUI pull away down the stretch - to go along with 10 digs; Lindsey Weber posted 10 kills and 11 digs, while Rachel Holmes tallied 11 kills and 20 digs.

Danielle Goodnight had the fourth double-double of the night for the Jags with 44 assists and 14 digs.

"Tonight I thought our rotation was really good, especially on the back row," IUPUI head coach Steve Payne said.  "We worked all week on protecting the court and adjusting to their hitters and it paid off."

Against an opponent that posed unique problems for the Jaguars in terms of size and rotation, the IUPUI attack overcame a UMKC front row that tallied 11 blocks on the night.  Still, the Jags hit .186 for the match, led by Monica Suding, who recorded 11 kills and just three errors on the evening, hitting .348.

It was Suding who closed IUPUI's first-set win with a kill on a feed from Goodnight.  In a set in which the teams exchanged the lead early on, it was Holmes and Reimbold who spurred a 3-0 Jaguar burst, making the score 17-14 and giving IUPUI a cushion.

While the Kangaroos battled back late in the set to come with three points once again, two consecutive errors pushed the IUPUI lead to five at 22-17, forcing a UMKC timeout.

On the serve of Lindsey Weber, the Jaguars opened up a seven-point lead before Suding put the set away, 25-18.

The second set followed a similar pattern - the teams trade points early, only to have IUPUI use a run midway through the set and pull away.  This time, Suding and Weber came up with kills to help the Jaguars open a 14-11 lead and force UMKC into a timeout.

The Kangaroos came within three points twice more in the match, but each time the Jaguars answered, the first time with a Jessica Phelps kill to go up, 18-14; the second response was aided by a UMKC service error, but a Suding kill and a Shari Bernhardt ace put the Jags ahead, 22-16.

From there, the end of the set was a formality, as a UMKC attack error closed the set.

UMKC would respond in the third set, however, opening up a 9-3 lead and holding on to cut their deficit in half.  Six straight points on the serve of Elizabeth Beck gave the Kangaroos the cushion, and the 'Roos would need every bit of the lead as IUPUI mounted a furious comeback late.

Trailing 18-10, IUPUI came back on the services of Nicole Ramey and Danielle Goodnight.  With Ramey serving, kills by Phelps and Goodnight cut the deficit to six; after a kill from Reimbold, two Kangaroo errors and another Reimbold kill made it a 19-17 set and forced a UMKC timeout.

The time to regroup served UMKC well, as they were able to come up with crucial sideouts on each of the next three IUPUI services.  Three consecutive IUPUI errors late in the set helped the Kangaroos close out the set, 25-19.

However, it was back to normal for IUPUI in the fourth set, trading jabs early only to land a big punch late to secure the win.  Trailing 15-14, Holmes and Suding came up with kills to give IUPUI their first lead since the second set and force UMKC into a timeout.

Bernhardt came up with an ace on her next serve, opening the lead to two, and IUPUI would open a three-point lead at 21-18 after another Reimbold kill.

Coming out of another Kangaroo timeout, Reimbold stuffed her 13th kill of the match on a feed from Goodnight, giving IUPUI their largest lead of the set.  Her 14th kill would come two points later, giving the Jags a 23-20 edge.  Holmes closed the match two points later with a kill off of two UMKC blockers.

Bernhardt led IUPUI with 22 digs and 3 service aces in the match; Reimbold picked up IUPUI's other two aces.

The Jaguars will close their eight-match homestand at The Jungle tomorrow night, when they host Southern Utah at 7 p.m..  The match will be carried live on IUPUI Live! and as well as having live stats.
