INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of IUPUI women's soccer seniors continued to build on their impressive resumes as the Jaguars rolled past Butler for the second straight year, 1-0. The win was Head Coach
Chris Johnson's squad's first of the season after last Friday's game was rescheduled for Tuesday.
Senior
Katrina McCrory netted her first goal of the year and the 13th of her career in the game's 17th minute to provide the game's only tally. Freshman
Lisa Thomas set up the play with a long run up the left sideline, before sending a crossing pass to McCrory. The tri-captain midfielder hit a right-footed volley past Jessica Schein, making it 1-0.
IUPUI (1-2), kept the heat on offensively, especially early in the second half, before escaping with the 1-0 win.
"We had two or three more breakaways in the second half that we could've put away. We just continued to create good opportunities for our forwards and fortunately, got one in the back of the net," IUPUI Head Coach
Chris Johnson said. "But the important thing is that we got the result that we wanted."
Defensively, senior
Jamie Farrell made three saves to up her school record to 14 career shutouts. Angie Muir was Butler's most dangerous culprit, attempting a game-high five shots as the Bulldogs outshot IUPUI 13-8. Sophomores
Chelsi McHenry and
Megan Hock had two shots each for the Jaguars.
After dropping the first six meetings between the two schools, IUPUI has now tied or beaten Butler three of the past four seasons. Last year, the Jaguars knocked off the Bulldogs 1-0 in a home match played at BU's Varsity Field due to wet conditions at Kuntz Stadium.
Johnson's club will continue the string of road matches against in-state foes over the weekend, beginning at Evansville on Friday. The Jaguars will take on the Purple Aces at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to take on Indiana State on Sunday. That match kicks off at 2:00 p.m..
