INDIANAPOLIS -- Sitting in fourth place in The Summit League by one-half game, the IUPUI volleyball team will control their destiny this weekend, as they take on the teams directly ahead of them in the conference standings when they host IPFW and Oakland on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m..
IUPUI (17-9, 9-6 Summit) is one game ahead of South Dakota State in the conference standing with three matches remaining; the Jackrabbits are at conference unbeaten North Dakota State this weekend.
The Jaguars are directly behind IPFW (16-9, 9-6 Summit) and Oakland (16-7, 9-6 Summit) for second place in The Summit; NDSU has clinched first place and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
IPFW rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Jags, 3-2, on Oct. 10. Defensively, IUPUI tallied 100 digs in the five sets, but could not overcome IPFW (11-8, 5-3 Summit).
Shari Bernhardt was one of three Jaguars with 20 or more digs in the match, as she led IUPUI with 22 digs. Three other Jags posted 10 or more digs in the match, as
Rachel Holme tallied 21 digs;
Danielle Goodnight had a double-double with 40 assists and 20 digs.
Entering Friday night, Goodnight is 32 assists shy of setting the IUPUI all-time assists record.
Oakland enters the weekend on a a two-match skid. First up for OU is Western Illinois, whom the Grizzlies dispatched, 3-0, in the two teams' previous meeting in Rochester, Mich.. The Jaguars went into the O'Rena and handed the Grizzlies a 3-2 defeat earlier this year.
Between sets of Friday's match, the Jaguars will host Favorite Professor Night; on Saturday, IUPUI will honor their five seniors - Goodnight, Holmes, Hillary Houston, Ashley Johnson and Monica Suding prior to the match.
