FARGO, N.D. -- The IUPUI volleyball team will seek to extend their record-setting season when they meet in-state foe IPFW in the semifinals of The Summit League Volleyball Tournament on Friday evening. The match will start at 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET) from the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse on the campus of North Dakota State University.
IUPUI (20-9, 12-6 Summit) has already set a school record for wins in single season, while
Danielle Goodnight and
Ashley Johnson have set individual records as well, with Goodnight breaking the all-time assists record and Johnson recording the most solo blocks in IUPUI history.
Now the Jaguars will look to take another step in The Summit League Tournament, a tournament that the IUPUI volleyball program has reached the finals of on two occasions, in 2000 and 2002.
The Jags will look to take that first step against IPFW (18-11, 11-7 Summit), a team they split the 2009 series with a year after sweeping the Mastodons in league play. On Oct. 10, the Jaguars nearly overcame a 2-0 deficit before falling in five sets to IPFW.
IUPUI gained a crucial win when they dominated the Mastodons, 3-0, at The Jungle on Nov. 7. The Jaguars defense was cranked up in the match, recording 70 digs in just three sets.
The aggressive defense drawn up by head coach
Steve Payne has paid dividends all year for IUPUI, as the Jags are third in the country in digs per set (18.82) a year after leading the NCAA in digging.
