SHORTHANDED SWIMMERS SHOW WELL AT BUTLER QUAD

Meet Results

INDIANAPOLIS -- With many swimmers still feeling the effects of an early flu season, the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams dug deep to put forth their best effort at the Butler Quad, competed at Fishers High School.  The men's team fell to Xavier, 179-83, and to Evansville, 189-87; the women defeated the host Bulldogs, 86-36, but fell to Xavier, 93-29, and to Evansville, 114-24.

Michael Steurer was the top performer on the men's side, taking first and third-place results during the meet.  The Jasper H.S.-product started his meet by finishing third in the mile, finishing the 1650 yard freestyle in 17:22.09. 

16 events later, Steurer paced the field in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:58.45.  The junior was seventh in the 200 IM, completing all four disciplines in 2:07.53.

Tyler McGowan and Mitchell Gauger finished on the podium for the Jaguars, as McGowan swam the 200 butterfly in 2:00.46 to finish third.  Gauger took podium results on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, placing second with a score of 293.65 on the 3-meter board; his score of 256.00 was good for third on the 1-meter board.

The women's team put four swimmers on the podium, helping them pick up their second win of the season.  Natalie Jarrett got the Jaguars rolling with a third-place finish in the 200 free, reaching the wall in 2:04.15.  The Western Boone H.S.-product also was the runner up in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:32.38.

Katlyn Huhn picked up a podium finish in the 100 breast, creating a two-way tie for third when she touched the wall in 1:12.49 to tie Evansville's Bridget Niezer.

Following up on her strong performance a week prior, Elizabeth Bourgeois tallied another podium, this one coming in the 200 fly, where she outpaced three other swimmers to capture third place in a time of 2:18.08.

Carrie Ford was the final podium finisher for the Jaguars, finishing the 500 free in 5:25.64 to claim third.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 13, when they host the House of Champions.  The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, and the meet will resume on Saturday, Nov. 14, with sessions at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m..
