INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team survived rainy conditions and a sloppy Michael A. Carroll Stadium pitch to outlast visiting Oakland on Friday night, 3-1. IUPUI (14-4, 6-2 Summit) posted its school record 14th victory and sealed a spot in the upcoming Summit League Tournament with the victory.

Sophomore Alicia Brock and senior Stephanie Hoffman both scored in the first half and sophomore Chelsi McHenry added some late insurance in the second half in the victory. The game began with a steady rain falling on an already wet field, but conditions quickly deteriorated after kickoff as the rain fell harder and the winds picked up.

"Your feet get stuck in the mud and you can't play direct passes because you don't know where they're going to go," McHenry said of Friday's rainy conditions. "It just makes it more of a 50-50 game because it's a dirty field."

A ball seemingly heading over the OU end line that ended up parking just shy of the stripe helped the Jaguars take a 1-0 lead in the game's 13th minute. Sophomore Megan Hock tracked the ball down before playing it back to Brock. The 2008 Summit League Newcomer of the Year got the ball to her left foot and drilled a shot past Shannon Coley for her eighth score of the season.

It was Hock's fifth assist of the season.

Oakland (7-8-1, 4-3-1 Summit) tied the match just 69 seconds later when Lindsey Blair netted her first goal of the season. The OU midfielder hit a free kick from the left flank off an IUPUI defender at the far post, leaving senior goalkeeper Jamie Farrell without a play on the ball.

Hoffman retaliated on a long free kick in the 42nd minute for the eventual game-winner. The lanky defender drilled a 30-yard bomb over the head of Coley for her first goal of the season, just 3:41 before halftime.

Both teams struggled to get quality chances in the second half as puddles on the field made possession and passing more difficult. Despite going against the win for the final 45 minutes, the IUPUI attack had seven second half corner kicks to just two for the visitors.

McHenry scored her first official collegiate goal for insurance in the 77th minute, set up by an assist from freshman Lisa Thomas. Thomas played a ball forward to the UL-Lafayette transfer, who blistered a shot from 15 yards out. The attempt hit off Coley's hands before bouncing inside the left post for the 3-1 lead. McHenry had previously scored at Butler, but the game was canceled due to rain and the statistics were subsequently wiped out.

"It sort of landed at my feet and I turned and the goalie was out, so fortunately I hit it hard enough," McHenry said.

From there, the Jaguars hunkered down defensively and kept Oakland from quality looks down the stretch. Farrell made nine stops in goal for the Jags as OU outshot the hosts 17-12 overall.

Leanne Fomenko and Brock tied for the game-high with four attempts and junior Kelly Williams put two on frame for the victors.

IUPUI will now host IPFW for Senior Day on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium before trekking to Brookings, S.D. for The Summit League Tournament next weekend. It marks IUPUI's second straight bid in the league's postseason.

"That's a pretty big accomplishment," McHenry said. "I know we were kind of on our toes because we didn't know what was going to happen, but it was good to get a good victory tonight."
