TULSA, Okla. -- The IUPUI volleyball team won by losing Saturday night.  Following their 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 19-25) loss to Oral Roberts at the ORU Aerobics Center, the Jaguars found out that due to South Dakota State's loss to IPFW, the Jags had clinched the fourth slot in the upcoming Summit League Tournament.

With two matches remaining, IUPUI (15-13, 8-6 Summit) holds a two-game lead over South Dakota State.  Due to the league's tiebreaker rules, the Jaguars hold the best tiebreaker over the Jackrabbits, clinching the berth for the Jags.

IUPUI allowed Oral Roberts (19-7, 11-2 Summit) to hit .298 in the match, tallying just 36 digs.  Chelsea Bastin did crack the 500-dig mark in the loss, coming up with 10 digs to move to 504 digs on the season.

A night after recording a career-high 14 kills, Monica Suding had 10 kills and hit .421 to lead the Jaguars.

The Jaguars came into the match on a roll, taking the first four points, using two kills from Suding and another from Shari Bernhardt; however, Oral Roberts worked their way back into the set with a 6-1 run, taking a 6-5 lead and forcing an IUPUI timeout.

For the remainder of the set, the Jags were not able to close within less than a point, at 9-8; from there, ORU went on an 8-2 run to open a 17-10 lead and cause another IUPUI timeout.  Following the break, the Jaguars closed to five, but Oral Roberts cruised to a 25-18 victory.

The teams traded points and leads throughout the opening of the second set, with neither team leading by more than three points early.  Finally, with the score tied at 17, Oral Roberts capitalized on two straight IUPUI attack errors to take a 19-17 lead.

After an ORU timeout, a Nicole Jenkins kill gave the Jags a chance to tie the set, but Thais Parada came through for the Golden Eagles, spurring a 3-0 run that led to IUPUI's second timeout.  Oral Roberts took three of the next four points to open a 2-0 lead in the match.

As they did in the second set, the teams traded points early, but Oral Roberts opened an 11-7 lead after a 4-1 run, forcing Steve Payne to burn his first timeout of the set.  The Jaguars responded, using kills by Suding and Kalyse Reimbold to close within 12-10.

After kills by Dana Gardner kept IUPUI within two points, a Bernhardt kill brought the Jags to 13-14, the Golden Eagles used a 5-1 run to take a 19-14 lead and cause IUPUI's second timeout.

Again, the Jaguars cut their deficit, this time to three points at 20-17, but Oral Roberts held on and won the set and match, 25-19.

IUPUI will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 14, when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on local Summit League opponent IPFW.  The Mastodons currently sit third in The Summit League standings.  The match will begin at 7 p.m. ET from the Hilliar Gates Sports Center.
