INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI volleyball team gave preseason Summit League favorite Oral Roberts all they could handle in a 3-0 loss Friday night at The Jungle.  The Jaguars and Golden Eagles went past 25 points in all three sets, with IUPUI losing 25-27, 28-30, 27-29.

In a matchup of two of The Summit League's top two teams, IUPUI (9-7, 2-1 Summit) used a double-double by Kalyse Reimbold to limit the Oral Roberts (10-5, 4-1 Summit) attack.  Reimbold had 16 kills and 11 digs in her first career double-double.

Danielle Goodnight had 34 assists for the Jaguars, while Chelsea Bastin led the country's best digging defense with 19 digs.  Shari Bernhardt had 10 digs for IUPUI.

Still, the Golden Eagles hit .227 for the match, getting 15 kills apiece from Joanita Souza and Danijela Novakovic.

From the beginning, the teams traded points, accounting for 38 ties and 19 lead changes in the match.  In the opening set, the Jaguars took an early lead, but never led by more than two points.  Following an ORU attack error, the Golden Eagles went on a 7-3 run to turn an 11-9 IUPUI lead into a 16-14 ORU advantage.

After the ensuing timeout, the Golden Eagles built their lead to as much as five points, at 21-16, before the Jaguars mounted their comeback.  A Bernhardt kill made it 17-21, and Ashley Johnson followed with a kill to cut the deficit to three.  Oral Roberts built their lead back to four, but a service error and a Monica Suding kill made it 21-23 and forced the Golden Eagles into a timeout.

The teams traded points to create a set point for ORU, but Reimbold saved the set with a kill, and then came away with an ace to knot the set at 24.  After the teams exchanged points, a Novakovic kill gave Oral Roberts set point #2, and Novakovic gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead with another kill.

The second set was more tense, as IUPUI raced out to an 11-7 lead after consecutive ORU attack errors.  The Golden Eagles took a quick timeout, and immediately rallied, going on a 9-3 run to take a 16-14 lead and force IUPUI into a timeout.

A Golden Eagle kill after the timeout pushed their lead to three, but IUPUI gradually worked their way back into the set, using a Reimbold kill to tie the set at 20; however, Oral Roberts rebuilt their lead to 23-21 and cause Steve Payne to burn his second timeout.

A Jaguar attack error after the timeout created a set point opportunity for Oral Roberts, but Hillary Houston came up with a kill to make it 22-24.  On the next point, Reimbold took a Goodnight feed for a kill to close within a point.  A Golden Eagle attack error on set point #5 (in the match) tied the match at 25.

Goodnight continued the run with a service ace, giving the Jaguars their first set point.  A kill by Juliane Viera tied the match at 25, but Reimbold gave the Jags another opportunity to even the match with another kill.  Following an ORU kill, Bernhardt made it 27-26 with a kill, but Novakovic answered with a kill to tie the set.  Again the Jags responded, using a Johnson kill to take their fourth set point chance.  However, three straight attack errors doomed the Jaguars, as Oral Roberts went to the locker room with a 2-0 lead.

Needing a win in the third set to force an additional set, the teams traded points early on until IUPUI built an 18-15 lead after a 4-0 run.  Reimbold and Goodnight keyed the run with a kill and a service ace, respectively.

Oral Roberts responded after a timeout, going on a 5-1 run to force an IUPUI timeout.  Still, the Jags tied the set at 23 after an ORU attack error.  However, an IUPUI error gave Oral Roberts match point.  Reimbold answered with a kill to tie the set at 24.  Another Golden Eagle kill made it 25-24, but Reimbold responded again, tying the set at 25, and following a Suding kill, the Jags had a chance to take the set at 26-25, causing ORU to burn a timeout.

A kill by Janete Ferreira tied the set at 26, and an IUPUI attack error gave ORU another chance to win the match.  However, Reimbold recorded her 16th kill of the match to tie the set at 27.  Still, Oral Roberts kep coming at IUPUI, using a kill and an attack error to win the set, 29-27, and win the match.

The Jaguars will look to rebound tomorrow night, on October 4, when they host UMKC.  The match will begin at 7 p.m. from The Jungle, and fans can follow the match via live stats or via Jags All-Access.
