CLEVELAND, Ohio - Coming off an emotional 3-1 Summit League victory on Friday, the IUPUI women's soccer team came out flat on Sunday in a 2-0 loss at Cleveland State. IUPUI (7-6-0) was outshot 11-4 in the defeat, with all four attempts being on frame.
"We just didn't come to play today," IUPUI Head Coach
Chris Johnson said. "It's important to keep momentum going if we want to become a consistent winning program. There's a lot of ups and downs, going from conference to non-conference games and we were definitely up on Friday.
"They're an improving program. They were very physical and really did a good job of taking us out of what we wanted to do."
The host Vikings (5-8-1) scored just over 11 minutes into the match when Sylvia Olsby netted her second of the year off a corner kick.
Johnson opted to empty his bench in both halves, including giving sophomore goalkeeper
Maeghan Parks her first action of the season in the second half. In all, Johnson played all 21 players that made the trip.
"
Stacy Levack did a nice job when she came in, but we think she's a starting caliber player in our program," Johnson said. "
Megan Hock brought some energy when she first came in too.
"And I thought
Karin Demo came in and did some good stuff," Johnson said. "She's still trying to find herself a little bit, but she's going to do some good things for us."
Starting goalkeeper
Jamie Farrell made three saves in the first half, while Parks recorded three stops and yielded a goal in the second half.
CSU's Shannon Saunders made four saves in the shutout victory. IUPUI's best scoring chance of the day came when
Alicia Brock worked free in behind the Cleveland State defenders, but was tracked down before she could get off a shot.
IUPUI now returns home for four straight home matches, beginning with a Summit League match with Southern Utah next Friday night at Kuntz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m..
