HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - IUPUI soccer standout Vangel Nacovski was picked by the Chicago Storm in Tuesday’s Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) College Draft in the opening territorial round, eighth overall. Nacovski, a 5-foot-11 midfielder, was named The Summit League’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2007 and was just the fifth player in league history to earn four straight First Team All-Conference berths.

This past season, Nacovski scored five of his nine goals in six league games, including game-winners versus IPFW, Oral Roberts and Western Illinois. The former Conference Newcomer of the Year finished ranked No. 2 on IUPUI’s all-time goals (37) and points (89) lists, while tying for the top spot in career game-winners (15). The highly touted striker was a two-time Summit League Offensive Player of the Week this past season and earned the honor five times in his illustrious career. He also holds the school record with four goals and eight points in a game.

He was also a two-time Third Team All-Region pick and was named to The College Soccer News All-Freshman Team in 2004.

"He’s played a lot of indoor, with some of the guys who currently play in the league," Storm head coach Steve Morris said of Nacovski in a press release. "We’re comfortable with his game."

The Storm, one of nine MISL teams, have 13 games left in the 2007-08 season. Chicago currently sits third in the league standings and has two other Indiana-natives on its current roster. The Storm later selected three forwards and a defender in the four subsequent rounds of the college draft, including 6-foot-3 forward Frank Jonke from Louisville. The squad also selected Amaury Nunes (Fresno Pacific), Amir Ikner (Cincinnati) and Stephen Brust (Bradley) on Tuesday.

Nacovski is on pace to receive his degree this spring from the School of Physical Education & Tourism Management before pursuing a professional soccer career.
