Senior women's golf Ana Fernandez de Mesa has been named IUPUI's Female Athlete of the Month for March 2014. The Spaniard posted a 74.3 stroke average for the month in three tournaments and posted three top-10 finishes.
Fernandez de Mesa was a three-time Summit League Golfer of the Week for the month, earning the award after each of her tournament entries.
She opened the month by tying for ninth among 105 golfers at the Red Rocks Invitational (Mar. 1-2), carding a 5-over 149 (72-77) at that event. Just more than a week later, she collected her first-ever collegiate tournament victory by winning the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., with a 5-over 149 (76-73).
She capped the month with a runner-up finish at the Saluki Invitational with a career-low 36-hole 148 (71-77). In doing so, she helped the Jaguars finish tied for fifth among the 14-team field.
