Senior women's cross country runner Rachel Zajac has been named IUPUI's August/September Athlete of the Month after her efforts in the season's first six weeks. Zajac won a pair of meets to start the year and was a three-time Summit League Athlete of the Week selection in August and September.

The fifth-year senior won the Dayton Flyer 5K (Aug. 31) and IPFW Invitational (Sept. 7), running season-best times of 18:25.2 (5K) and 22:26.33 (6K). At Dayton, her 5K time was less than a second off her personal record and the ninth-fastest in school history. Her time at Fort Wayne was the tenth quickest in school history and helped IUPUI to the team title over host IPFW and Ball State.

She capped the month by earning IUPUI's first-ever top 10 finish at the Indiana Intercollegiates Meet, placing ninth in a time of 18:28.31 to help IUPUI to its highest-ever finish. The Jaguars finished third among the Division I schools participating.

She is one of only two runners in IUPUI history to earn Summit League Athlete of the Week honors, joining Hall of Famer Lyndsey Emerson.
