Joel Smith joined the IU Indianapolis Athletics staff in October 2025 as Assistant A.D. for Development and will oversee all of the department's revenue generation. In this role, he'll provide facilitation and growth of the Jaguars Athletics Fund while serving as primary liaison to donors, alumni and departmental stakeholders. Â
Most recently, Smith served as Director of Youth and Sports Ministries at Crossroads Community Church in Fishers, Ind. He was responsible with organizing, directing and facilitating all ministry functions for students ranging from seventh to 12th grade, while also overseeing a youth soccer league, youth basketball team and multiple adult sports ministries.Â
Smith, an Indianapolis-native, is no stranger to college athletics. After a four-year playing career with the Wheaton College basketball program, he later served as an assistant coach at his alma mater. He also served as Program Director for Victory Sports, a non-profit aimed to help develop young people physically, spiritually, mentally, and socially through athletics.
Smith and his wife Alli reside in Noblesville.Â
