Doug Starnes

Doug Starnes rejoined the IUPUI Women's Soccer staff prior to the 2020 season after spending the 2019 campaign as an assistant coach in Bloomington with the Hoosiers. In his lone season in Bloomington, Starnes helped the Hoosiers to an 8-9-2 mark while working primarily with the goalkeepers. In net, the Hoosiers yielded just 16 goals in 19 games and registered nine shutouts, six of which came in Big Ten play, setting a program record. Junior keeper Bethany Kopel took over as the program's all-time leader in shutouts during the year and closed with a 0.82 goals against average.

Starnes previously joined the Jaguars' staff in Spring 2018 and provided tutelage to the IUPUI keepers during the fall season. That year, Sophia Lipka built on her previous success by recording a 1.10 GAA and six shutouts for the season.

Since June 2018, Starnes has served as the 2001 Girls Head Coach and Girls Club Recruiting Advisor for Hoosier FC, a premier club in Indianapolis. He has also spent time with Indiana Fire Juniors as the Senior Girls Coach and Goalkeeper Coach. From 2014-16, he worked with the Indiana Olympic Development Program as the Goalkeeper Coordinator, managing the goalkeeping staff and training goalkeepers selected by the regional and national pools.

Previously, Starnes worked at DePauw, including elevating to the Tigers' interim head coach at the end of his tenure. He was part of a staff that helped DePauw to a 12-7-2 mark in 2015. That squad won NCAC regular and tournament titles before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

He joined the Tigers in 2014 after spending the previous seven years working for the Department of Justice.

A 2002 Baylor University graduate, Starnes spent time coaching at the club and high school levels. He was an assistant under Texas Association of High School Coaches Hall of Fame member, Erik Lane, at Brenham High School. Additionally, he was the head coach for the Baylor men’s soccer club team.

He also holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma and previously served as opposition scout for the Indy Eleven under former head coach Tim Regan.
