C.D. Hockersmith is in his first season as an Assistant Coach under Head Coach John Andrews. He will assist both the men’s and women’s golf programs.

Hockersmith was picked as Ball State’s Team MVP in 2003-04 and earned All Mid-American Conference honors that same season. He highlighted an impressive freshman campaign by winning the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club on Oct. 3. 

As a senior, he was named a Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar. He finished his four-year career with the fourth lowest scoring average in BSU history, notching a 74.79 mark over 139 rounds. He earned his degree from Ball State in 2007. 

The Richmond, Ind.-native gained national notoriety in 2005 when he took on Michelle Wie in match play at the 80th United States Golf Association’s National Public Links Championship at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, dropping a 6-and-5 decision. 

As a senior at Richmond High School, he helped the team capture the 2003 IHSAA State Championship after finishing as runner-up his junior season.

Hockersmith will assist in recruiting, practice planning and individual instruction and will begin duties immediately.
