Bornhorst joined IUPUI in the fall of 2018 after spending the 2017-2018 season as a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Texas Tech University. While working at Texas Tech, she earned her Master’s degree in Sport Management.
Bornhorst, a native of Dublin, Ohio, outside of Columbus, Ohio, began her basketball career at Butler, playing four years for the Bulldogs from 2009-13. During her four years as a Bulldog, Bornhorst earned academic honors in both the Atlantic 10 and the Horizon League, graduating with a journalism degree, and was named the team captain as a senior. Bornhorst also worked in the Butler Sports Information department and the Media Relations department with the Indiana Fever.
Following Butler, Bornhorst worked in the public relations field for Grand Solutions, Inc., representing IndyCar teams and drivers. Bornhorst then got back into women's collegiate basketball working as an assistant coach for Taylor University from 2015-17. During the 2016 season, Bornhorst was named the interim head coach six games in to the season.
