Former IU Indianapolis standout Andrew Whitinger took over as the men's cross country and track and field program's top assistant in April 2026, elevating to the top aide under head coach Justin Amburgy.Â
Whitinger has trained athletes of all ages, having worked with youth, high school and post-collegiate athletes in endurance training. He also competes at a high level, running USATF road events, ranging from the 5K to marathon. Â
The New Castle, Ind.-native capped his standout collegiate career in a Jaguar uniform after initially running at Purdue Fort Wayne.Â
In his lone season with the Jaguars, he earned First Team All-Horizon League honors in cross country by placing fourth overall at the league championships. On the track, he was the league runner-up in both the 3,000 and 5,000m events during the indoor season, earning Second Team All-League accolades. During the outdoor season, he finished third in the league in the 5,000 and 10,000m events, collecting honorable mention all-league accolades.Â
He broke the school record in the indoor 5K at 14:04.12 while finishing second on the program's all-time list in the 3K. He also set the school record in the 10K with a best time of 29:13.08.Â
