Zane Brugenhemke joined the IUPUI Sports Medicine Staff as an Athletic Trainer at IUPUI in July 2015. Brugenhemke will be specifically working with the men’s soccer program and will oversee athletic training efforts for the swimming and diving and men’s tennis teams.
Brugenhemke has been a certified athletic trainer since 2012 and has experience with multiple levels of competition from high school to professional sports. Most recently, he spent valuable time working in Major League Soccer (MLS) with FC Dallas, working closely with the youth academy U-16 team, who went on to win a USDA National Championship. Before FC Dallas, he spent two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Akron working mainly with the football team and also assisted with women’s swimming and diving.
Brugenhemke’s education started at Iowa State University where he was the first student to receive a B.S. in Athletic Training while working with a multitude of sports for the Cyclones. He continued his education at the University of Akron, achieving a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration.
Brugenhemke is NATA BOC certified and is a licensed athletic trainer in Ohio, Texas, and Indiana. He is also certified in First Aid and CPR. Brugenhemke is proud to be active in the soccer community outside of IUPUI. He is a USSF Certified Referee that predominately works in the Indianapolis area, and is a member of the newly formed Soccer Athletic Trainers Society (SATS).
