IU Indy Athletics

Matthew Roop joined the IU Indy men's soccer staff in July 2026 after spending the prior season at nearby University of Indianapolis. In his lone season at UIndy, he helped the Greyhounds to an 11-6-3 record and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance and a first round tourney win. 

The Greyhounds boasted four All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) honorees and two United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region selections. In addition, junior midfielder Joey Longo was selected as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) second team Academic All-American. 

Roop joined UIndy from Manchester University where he was the assistant men's soccer coach from 2023-25. While on the Manchester staff, he served as the team's head assistant coach, the reserve team's head coach, led the recruiting efforts of the team, and also directed and organized the fundraising camps and clinics for the program.  

Prior to Manchester, Roop spent one season at The Ohio State University where he served as the men's soccer team's volunteer assistant coach. In his lone season with the Buckeyes, the team earned its fewest losses in program history as well as earning its first undefeated non-conference season in program history. While in Columbus, Roop also worked for Barca Academy as the 2013 Pre-ECNL and 2009 ECNL boys head coach, as well as serving an Assistant Technical Director for the club. 

Roop previously spent two years at the University of Illinois earning a master's degree in recreation, sport and tourism while also serving as the Premium Seating Graduate Assistant and as an Illinois soccer manager.

As a student-athlete, Roop was a four-year starter and three-time captain on the Manchester soccer team, earning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) all-league honors twice. During his career, he was part of the winningest team in school history.

Academically, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Manchester College with a bachelor's degree in marketing and sport management and a minor in sales.
