Academically, he excelled as well and Schwien was named to the All-GMAC Academic Team three times. He was also a two-time OCSA All-Ohio DII Academic Team pick and a three-time NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. He started all 58 matches at center midfield during his three season at Cedarville.

Along with semi-professional playing experience with the Crew's U23 team, Dayton Dutch Lions and Buxmont Torch FC, Schwien also has a strong coaching background at the club level. He currently holds his Grassroots License from the United States Soccer Federation and has elite youth club coaching experience with Dayton Dutch Lions FC and Penn Fusion Soccer Academy.
