Garrett Bireline joined the IUPUI coaching staff in February 2014 and will serve as the program's top assistant under Head Coach Isang Jacob. Most recently, Bireline spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Wheaton (Ill.) College in suburban Chicago.
While at Wheaton, Bireline helped the Thunder to back-to-back CCIW conference crowns and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. In just two seasons, he coached two All-Americans, nine-All-Region and 13 All-Conference performers, while compiling a 35-8-5 record. He was involved in all facets of coaching including recruiting, training, game day preparation, travel management and academic oversight.
Bireline has previous experience with the Strikers Fox Valley Soccer Club of St. Charles, Ill., and domestic and international experience with the Chicago Eagles, a division of Missionary Athletes International (MAI). As a student-athlete, he starred at Bowling Green State University, earning the Falcon Junior Athlete of the Year in 2010 and the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Presidential Award in 2011. He helped turn the program around, culminating in a third-place MAC finish his senior season.
He earned his B.S. in Exercise Science in 2011 and completed his M.S. in Sports Management from Liberty University in 2014.
He also holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, which he completed in 2013.
