Evan Fruits

Following an outstanding collegiate running career at IUPUI, Evan Fruits joined the coaching ranks as the top assistant on Chuck Koeppen’s cross country and track staffs in 2010. He enters his fourth year with the program in 2013.

In additon to his role with the cross country and track programs, Fruits serves as the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor and Life Skills Coordinator.   

Fruits is involved in all facets of the program, including conducting practices and workouts, recruiting, budget management and academic oversight. Since coming on board, Fruits has helped boost the Jaguars' recruiting efforts, helping land some of the state's top talent over the past four years.

Fruits was on staff during the implementation of the track program and helped three Jaguars earn All-Summit League honors on the track in 2013.  


He has earned the USTFCCCA Track & Field Management certificate and is USATF Level 1 certified.

During his college days, Fruits was a steady competitor and well recognized leader of the cross country program throughout his four-year running career. He earned the team’s Leadership Award in each of his final two seasons and the Coach’s Award his senior season. He ran in 27 of 28 possible meets in his career and was consistently among the Jags’ top four.

He notched a personal best 25:36.22 8K at the UE Invitational on Oct. 18, 2008 and ran a PR 10K time later that same season. Fruits was named IUPUI’s Most Valuable Freshman in 2006 after running among the team’s top five in five of seven meets.

Academically, Fruits was a four-time Academic All-League choice and was named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence each of his final three seasons. In addition, he was on IUPUI’s Academic Advisor’s List all eight semesters of his career and named among the university’s Top 100 students his junior and senior years. He also served as the Vice President of the IUPUI Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2009-10.

The Whiteland, Ind.-native earned his degree from the Kelley School of Business in 2010 with a degree in finance. Fruits and his wife, Angela, reside in Indianapolis.Â
