Ashley Burelison was named IUPUI’s Head Cheerleading Coach in September 2018 before stepping down following the 2021-2022 campaign. However, she's stayed on the IUPUI staff as an assistant coach going forward.
Burelison has been on the IUPUI campus since 2007 and currently serves as an Academic Advisor in the IU SHHS School of Health & Human Sciences. In that role, she’s also a Certified Student Success Coach, instructor of First-Year Seminars, and Vice President of the Jaguar Academic Advising Association (JACADA).
Burelison brings 13 years of coaching experience in competition and sideline cheerleading, tumbling, and dance having most recently served at Cascade High School. Her squads have always focused on promoting school spirit, practicing proper safety, and being present in the community.
She has served in a variety of roles including: Avon High School (head coach of 7 years), Avon Junior Athletic Association, Avon Middle School North, Co-founder of the Hoosier Cheer Stars, and The Flip Zone. Her experience spans across all age groups, coaching all-star cheerleading (nationally), teaching tumbling and recreational gymnastics, and choreographing competition routines. She holds many safety certifications and often serves as a local tryout or competition judge.
Burelison earned her BA in Psychology from IUPUI and her MSEd in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University.
