FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's cross country team continued to get standout efforts from its rookies as the Jaguars competed at the Rumble in the Fort, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne, on Saturday (Sept. 19). The race was delayed multiple times due to inclement weather and ultimately became a combined 6,000m race with the men's race.
The Jaguars placed second among the four teams competing with 42 points, trailing only Findlay's 28-point effort. The Jaguars easily outpaced host Purdue Fort Wayne's 67 points and St. Francis (Ind.), which closed at 104.
Rookie
Maren Wilson paced the Jaguars with a time of 22:15.3, putting her second overall. Behind her,
Hannah Suvar made her collegiate debut with a time of 22:29.1, placing fifth and fellow freshman
Aftin Griffin was 13th at 23:01.8.
"We frolicked in the puddles the whole time," Suvar said of the muddy Saturday.
Senior
Grace Bragg finished at 23:14.2 and sophomore
Kaylynn Bedel was just off her pace at 23:16.4. Two other expected key contributors weren't in the team's final tally on Saturday as
Elora Bliss didn't start due to sickness and Indiana-transfer
Ellia Hayes didn't finish as she eases her way into the competitive season.
Sophomores
Emily Bruns,
Xavery Weisman and
Jenna Twedt rounded out the team's finishers with Bruns crossing at 24:08.6. Weisman finished at 24:18.0 and Twedt closed at 24:20.1.
Findlay junior Lauren Sattler was the top individual finisher in a time of 21:48.0.
The Jaguars will return to action on Oct. 3 when they compete in the Louisville Classic.
