LOUISVILLE, Ky. — IU Indianapolis (0-1-0) fell to the University of Louisville (1-0-0) in a tightly contested match, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. This match marked the first game of Head Coach Keegan Boom's career, adding a layer of significance to the outing for IU Indy.
The Jaguars trailed 2-0 at the break and were held without a shot until early in the second half, but played the host Cardinals on more even footing as the match progressed. Senior
Jose Antonio Herrera was chopped down on an attack in the 70th minute and later converted the ensuing penalty kick to account for the Jaguars' offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match commenced with Louisville applying early pressure, resulting in a goal by Giacomo Zizza in the sixth minute. The Jags' defense faced challenges, as evidenced by
Peter Field saving a shot from Zizza in the 19th minute and possession was problematic in the opening half. Zizza scored from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute as Louisville outshot the Jags 6-0 in the opening half with a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.
IU Indy finally put a shot on frame in the 52nd minute when rookie
Micah Eldridge tested the Louisville keeper with a bicycle kick from 14 yards out.
Herrera finally broke the ice in the 70th minute with a PK after a short review from the officials confirmed the original call. Herrera just missed an equalizer in the 88th minute, redirecting a shot just wide of target.
The game saw 10 different Jags, including all six reserves, make their IU Indy debuts, showcasing the team's fresh talent.
