JAGUARS COLLECT 4-2 WIN OVER DETROIT MERCY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORY

IU Indy wins second straight and third in the past four contests

INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's soccer team extended its winning streak to two with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Detroit Mercy at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 18). The Jaguars yielded an early score but responded with four unanswered goals on way to the win as senior Caroline Kelley tallied twice, including the game-winner. Both Annaliese Black and Keilah Muldrow each had a goal and an assist to help power the offense.

Sophomore Isabel Oferosky made seven saves in net as Detroit Mercy outshot the Jaguars 16-12 and earned 10 corner kicks.

That said, it was an efficient IU Indy (6-8-2, 4-4 HL) attack that responded as the Jaguars won for a third time in the past four games.

A giveaway on the back line led to an Emma Henry in the game's fourth minute as the Titans (4-9-2, 2-5-1 HL) grabbed a quick lead.

"I think we were definitely stunned to get scored on first, but I think it just lit a fire in us," Black said of the come-from-behind win. "We decided, all right, we need to go. We need these points. It worked."

From there, it was all Jaguars taking advantage of opportunities in the attacking third. Muldrow tied the match in the 19th minute when she headed home a Black restart for her team-high seventh goal of the season. The score was 1-1 at the break, but the Jaguars were just getting started offensively.

Muldrow drew a penalty kick in the 56th minute and Kelley converted to give the Jaguars the lead. The margin stayed at one until Kelley added an impressive insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Muldrow and Titan goalkeeper Eva Hall converged on a call well beyond the 18-yard box, forcing the keeper to send the ball away towards midfield. Kelley settled the ball and fired a shot from just inside midfield that pinged off the post and over the endline for her fourth score of the year.

Tasked with killing the game and sealing the win, the attack found another scoring opportunity when JoJo Murphy played Muldrow up the right side into space. Muldrow proceeded to cross the ball to Black, who settled and slotted home her fourth score of the season.

UDM's Adey Avey capped the scoring with a tally in the game's final minute.

The Jaguars entered Sunday in the No. 6 spot in the league standings and used the full three points to remain in the hunt for the Horizon League Tournament. IU Indy will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 22 at Robert Morris on ESPN+.
