MACOMB, Ill. – The IU Indianapolis women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 4–3 road victory over Western Illinois on Friday afternoon, improving to 2–0 on the season.
In doubles action, IU Indy picked up a win at No. 1 doubles as the pairing of Kadzinski and Kotre defeated Francois and Nour Gueblaoui 6–3. Western Illinois claimed the remaining two doubles matches to keep the overall score close heading into singles play.
The Jaguars secured the match behind four individual wins. IU Indy opened singles play strong, with
Kally Kadzinski setting the tone at No. 1 singles. Kadzinski earned a straight-set victory, defeating Richardlyne Francois 6–3, 6–3.
At No. 2 singles,
Sara Jankovic battled through a tight second set to claim a 6–2, 7–6 win over Chloe Routier, giving the Jaguars another key point. The Leathernecks responded with wins at Nos. 3 and 6 singles, tightening the overall score.
The turning point came in the middle of the lineup, where
Calli Sokolowski delivered a clutch comeback at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 6–2, Sokolowski rallied to win the next two sets 7–5, 6–2. Shortly after,
Elle Kotre sealed the team victory with a three-set win at No. 5 singles, topping Jessica Hess 6–3, 3–6, 6–3.
With the win, IU Indianapolis remains unbeaten at 2–0, while Western Illinois falls to 0–1 on the season.
