KLAVER, ISOM LEAD MEN'S SOCCER TO 3-2 ROAD WIN AT SOUTHERN INDIANA

Sophomore Stan Klaver tallies twice and Nathaniel Isom adds the game-winner

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Sophomore Stan Klaver tallied a pair of second half goals and redshirt junior Nathaniel Isom netted the game-winner in the closing moments as the IU Indianapolis men's soccer team rallied for a 3-2 road win at Southern Indiana on Saturday (Sept. 6). The Jaguars trailed for much of the match, but came off the mat late with a pair of Klaver tallies before Isom deposited the winner in the 88th minute.

The win was the Jaguars' second straight, both coming against in-state foes.

"With all the possession we had and the chances we created, I think the best team won today, but USI definitely put us under pressure in moments and taught us a couple valuable lessons today on things we have to improve and get better on going forward," head coach Sid van Druenen said.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Jaguars (2-1-2) stormed back with three goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the comeback victory. Klaver came off the bench to spark the rally, netting the equalizer in the 74th minute off a setup from Bali Esquivel. Just over two minutes later, Klaver struck again—once more assisted by Esquivel—to put the Jags in front, 2-1.

Southern Indiana (1-3) responded in the 84th minute when Kristopher Martial redirected a header off Edin Cvorovic's restart to level the match at 2-2.

However, van Druenen's squad had the last word and the day's final response. Isom buried the game-winner in the 88th minute, with assists from Youri Keijser and Brady Horn, sealing the road triumph. IU Indy earned back-to-back corner kicks, the second ultimately leading to the score. After USI initially cleared the ball, Horn recycled the attack to Keijser on the right side. Keijser calmly rolled a centering pass to Isom inside the 18-yard box and the Bradley-transfer blasted a shot past the USI keeper.

"It was a golden chance the team worked for in those closing minutes," Isom said. "It felt electric to put the ball in the back of the net!"

IU Indy keeper Cameron Maung-Maung tallied two saves in the win.

IU Indy was outshot 16-14, but put eight attempts on target while allowing just four shots on frame. Christian Nielsen led the attack with four attempts and much of the build came through Tyson Aschliman in the first half on the right side.

The Jaguars also closed with a decisive 7-3 margin in corner kicks.

IU Indy will now return to Indy for its home opener against Northern Illinois on Tuesday night (Sept. 9) at 6:00 p.m. inside Carroll Stadium.
