NORMAL, Ill. - The IU Indianapolis women's soccer team fell victim to a hot Illinois State on the road on Thursday night (Sept. 4), falling to the Redbirds, 2-0. ISU's Rylann Law tallied both goals in the win as the hosts outshot the Jaguars by a decisive 17-5 margin and 7-3 gap in shots on goal.
Senior
Arissa North recorded five saves in defeat while
Hannah Roberson paced the attack with two shot attempts.
Law flared the game-winner over North in the game's 32nd minute and added insurance in the 63rd minute when she turned the right corner, tiptoed along the endline and scored from a tough angle for a brace.
The IU Indy (1-5) attack was outshot for the first time all season, but still created quality chances in just five shot attempts. A Roberson shot on goal in the tenth minute resulted in a Madi Valenti save and ensuing corner kick for the Jaguars. Later in the half, junior
Lindsey Castillo created chaos as Valenti's clearance hit off the IU Indy midfielder, leading to a loose ball right of target. Castillo arrived on scene first, but was unable to get a shot off against converging defenders as Valenti was retreating to her line.
In the second half,
Caroline Kelley played a beautiful ball over the top to speedy sophomore
Keilah Muldrow. Muldrow was able to get an attempt, but forced the shot just wide of target with Valenti bearing down on her.
The Jaguars' final attempt of the night came in the closing minutes as freshman
Shannon Phillips put a shot on frame against Valenti.
The Jaguars will have a much needed gap between games before facing crosstown foe Butler on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. inside BU's Sellick Bowl.
