INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's soccer team will conclude week two of the regular season on Sunday (Aug. 24) when the Jaguars host Southern Illinois at 1:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium, presented by IU Health. As part of Spirit Day, IU Indy students in attendance will be given free pizza and drinks and other giveaways throughout the day.
On the field, head coach Angela Berry White's team is coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 road loss at Eastern Illinois on Thursday as the Jaguars conceded in the 87th minute of defeat. The Jaguars continued to create opportunities, outshooting the Panthers 16-10, including a pair of shots hitting the crossbar, but ultimately were blanked for the first time on the year. Freshman
Anika Guenther attempted a game-high five shots off the bench and goalkeeper
Sarah Bambrick registered four saves.
Junior
Caroline Kelley made her season debut after missing the opener and attempted two shots from her forward position, including ripping an attempt off the bar early in the second half. Fellow junior
Avery Bangert, who tallied in the opener, had two attempts off the bench.
QUOTABLE
"It's always tough to lose a game, especially one in the last few minutes. I'm proud of our players for creating chances in the attacking third. We need to learn how to capitalize on our opportunities. We're still trying to figure some things out. We'll learn from our mistakes and get back to work to prepare for our next game," White said.
SCOUTING SIU
SIU is 2-0 on the season with shutout victories over Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State. Dory Latenser leads the Saluki attack with two shots and an assist while Sophia Schlicklin has a goal and two assists. In goal, Reagan Miller has been perfect, making four saves in a pair of shutout wins.
INSIDE THE SERIES
IU Indy is 2-1 all-time against SIU and won the lone meeting in Indianapolis in the series. The Salukis won last year's meeting, 3-1, in Carbondale as
Emma Frey scored on a late tally.
