INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's basketball program announced a sixth signee and the third transfer in this year's recruiting class as Jaxon Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind. / Cathedral HS) signed to join the Jaguars. Edwards, a 6-foot-5 swingman, spent last season at St. Bonaventure, but was limited to just five games due to injury.

"In this class, we've made an emphasis on getting longer and more athletic, particularly on the wings," head coach Paul Corsaro said. "Bringing in someone like Jaxon, who's also an Indy kid, immediately addresses that need. He's a hard-nosed kid who plays with a high motor and toughness. We think he can be elite defensively and guard multiple backcourt positions and offensively, he can do a variety of things. He can get downhill, he can shoot it and he finishes well at the rim.

"We're excited to get him back home and continue to attract some of the top talent from across the state."

Edwards played just 36 minutes total at St. Bonaventure this past season after suffering an injury in November. Edwards played the 2023-24 season at Valparaiso, playing in 31 games with 21 starts. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while blocking 40 shots, ranking fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference with 1.29 blocked shots per game. He scored in double-digits nine times that season while shooting better than 40 percent from the floor. Edwards played his freshman season at Murray State, making 11 appearances, totaling 29 minutes.

Edwards was part of Cathedral's 2021-22 Class 4A IHSAA State Championship squad, averaging 10.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He was a two-time all-state honoree and earned a spot on the Indiana All-Star Team following his senior year. He was also named to the Junior All-Star Team after averaging 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

Edwards becomes the sixth IU Indy men's basketball addition for next season, joining Eastern Kentucky-transfer Micah Davis, South Dakota State-transfer Will Whorton and high school signees Maguire Mitchell, Austin Sperry and Gabe Stewart.
