CLEVELAND, Ohio - The IU Indy men's tennis team faced a tough challenge against Cleveland State on Sunday, falling 7-0 to the Vikings.
The Jaguars were unable to secure a win in singles or doubles play. The Vikings took the early advantage in doubles, clinching the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while IU Indy's No. 2 pair of
Kamil Kozerski and
Noah Viste led 5-4 in an unfinished No. 2 match.
In singles, Cleveland State continued its dominance. Lincoln Battle edged Kozerski in a tight second set tiebreaker at No. 1 (6-2, 7-6), while Carl Gedlitschka rallied past
Steven Paz at No. 2 (5-7, 6-2, 6-3).
Eli Mercer forced a decisive third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 but ultimately fell to Nico Jamison (6-7, 6-2, 1-0).
At No. 5, Devin Boyer claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Konner Gunwall, and Maxime Aremon completed the sweep for Cleveland State with a comeback win over
Pumiphat Sukkho at No. 6 (4-6, 6-4, 1-0).
With the loss, IU Indy drops to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. They will look to bounce back in Horizon League play when they travel to Northern Kentucky on March 29. First serve is set for 4:00 PM.
