INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's basketball team will cap the regular season on Saturday (Mar. 1) when the Jaguars host Wright State inside Corteva Coliseum at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The program will recognize
Jarvis Walker and
Paul Zilinskas prior to the game, which will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Walker and Zilinskas, each having played just one season in an IU Indy uniform, represent one of the league's best scoring duos. Zilinskas ranks third in the Horizon League in scoring at 17.7 points per game, while leading the league in threes made (86), three point percentage (41.0%) and threes per game (3.0/game). The 6-foot-5 guard has totaled 1,512 points in three stops, having begun his career at Quincy before playing last season at UIndy. Walker checks in among the league's top-10 in scoring at 15.4 points per game and has 1,291 points in stops at Purdue Fort Wayne, UIndy and IU Indianapolis.
The Jaguars come in on the heels of an 82-68 defeat to league champion Robert Morris, despite a team-high 17 points from
Sean Craig and Walker. The Jags committed a season-low two turnovers, but saw RMU shoot 57 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three.
Zilinskas finished with 14 points and
Alec Millender,
DeSean Goode and
Keenan Garner added six points each. Millender, who leads the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio, also handed out four assists.
Thursday's game marked the program's first outing since a fire destroyed the team bus and much of the team's practice gear and belongings on the way back from the Feb. 23 game at Northern Kentucky.
QUOTABLE
"I'm not thrilled that we lost the game, but honestly, I don't fault our effort. I thought we played incredibly hard and I thought we executed well in committing just two turnovers. We missed a lot of layups and a lot of shots in close and that was costly. Defensively, I thought we guarded well in the first half in holding them to 34 points. I challenged some of our guys tonight and they responded. I challenged Paul and he responded and I really got into Jarvis and when he came back (in the game), he was a difference maker," Corsaro said following Thursday's loss to Robert Morris.
