INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis Athletics Department continued to fare well academically, according to the most recent NCAA Graduation Success Rate numbers, released on Wednesday (Nov. 19). Departmentally, IU Indy had a 96 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for the 2015-16 - 2018-19 freshman cohort while 10 programs recorded perfect scores.

The 96 percent represents a new program record, surpassing the 95 percent mark established last year. IU Indy is tied for the top GSR in the Horizon League and second among the Division I schools in the state of Indiana, trailing only Notre Dame.

"We continue to graduate student-athletes in all of our sports at an incredibly high level," IU Indy Director of Athletics Luke Bosso said. "That's our endgame. We want our student-athletes to come in and immediately compete for championships, but ultimately, receive their degree and move onto the next phase of life, whether it's playing professionally, pursuing additional degrees or entering the workforce.

"I continue to be blown away by how well our student-athletes perform in the classroom and serve as ambassadors for the university."

The 10 programs that registered perfect scores were the men's basketball, soccer and tennis programs and women's basketball, cross country and track, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball programs.

The GSR is a four-year composite look at the freshman classes of 2015-16 through 2018-19. IU Indy far exceeded the Division I national average of 90 percent. The GSR includes student-athletes who are on scholarship their first semester of enrollment. Student-athletes who transfer or depart for the professional ranks in good academic standing do not count against the school's numbers.
