INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's basketball program announced a pair of signees for next season as head coach Ben Howlett's program signed
Trey Drexler (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick HS) and
Kaloyan Kolev (Lynchburg, Va. / Virginia Episcopal School) for next season. Drexler, a 6-foot-1 guard, and Kolev, a 6-foot-7 guard, are the program's first two additions for next year.
"We're excited about bringing these two guys into the program," Howlett said. "They're both just good guys who know how to play and who are excited to play in our system. They're good students and just really solid guys. I'm excited to coach them both and help them grow and develop. They're going to make our program immediately better."
Drexler has been among the top guards in the state of Ohio throughout his career at Brunswick High School. He averaged 20.7 points and 3.2 assists per game as a junior while shooting 43.3 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from three. He had amassed 1,225 points in his high school career coming into this season and helped Brunswick to the program's first Greater Cleveland Conference crown since 2016. He earned First Team D-I All-Ohio honors and was the Northeast Inland District D-I Player of the Year in 2025.
"Trey plays with a really high basketball IQ," Howlett said. "He's in the race for Ohio Mr. Basketball and is just a scorer's scorer. He finds ways to score. He's tough and just kind of that typical Cleveland guard in that he's a really tough, solid player."
Kolev has found success at a variety of levels, playing internationally with the Bulgarian National Team, while also starring at Virginia Episcopal School and with the Washington Warriors on the summer circuit. He earned First Team All-Blue Ridge Athletic Conference (BRAC) honors after averaging 14.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior. He averaged 6.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in seven games at the FIBA U18 Euros in Serbia this past summer and previously played in the FIBA U16 Euros in 2023.
"Kaloyan is a multi-skilled, high IQ player," Howlett said. "He's a really good passer at 6-foot-7 and just a really intelligent kid. He's a straight A student and just does things the right way. He knows how to play and makes his teammates better around him. I think he's going to adjust pretty quickly to the college game and help us right away."
