INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy swim and dive team nearly swept the competition at the IU Indy Invite on Saturday afternoon. The men's team defeated Xavier, St. Louis and Bellarmine while the women's team took down Bellarmine, St. Louis, Xavier and Butler while falling to Bowling Green.
On the men's side, the Jags totaled 14 first-place finishes with
Grayson Tidwell,
Nathan Rariden,
Logan Kelly,
Sebastian Otero,
Hugo Arteaga all earned two top finishes each.
Rariden earned wins in the 200 free (1:42.24) and the 500 free (4:41.28).
Luke Parsons finished shortly behind Rariden in the 500 while
Youssef Magdy took third and
Michael Esdon earned fourth. Tidwell took first-place finishes in the 50 back (23.17) and the 100 back (50.93).
Kelly also earned two wins, touching first in the 50 breast (25.20) and the 100 breast (54.65). Arteaga took first in two events with wins in the 100 fly (49.69) and the 50 fly (22.01). Freshman
Noah Van Zuidam took second in the 100 fly while
Isaac Wilson took third.
Zach Drotar earned the win in the 200 IM (1:53.05) while Magdy took first in the 1000 free (9:23.31).
The Jags also earned two relay wins. Tidwell, Kelly, Arteaga and Rariden earned the win in the 400 medley relay with a total time of 3:19.74 while
Keaton Barwick,
David Niemiec, Arteaga and Shane Tebeest took the win in the 200 free relay (1:23.37).
On the women's side, the Jags took three first-place finishes.
Chloe Yerkes took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.07 while
Luca McGee took second in the 50 free (24.20).
On the diving boards,
Sebastian Otero swept the men's competition with a score of 341.90 in the 1-meter and 338.80 in the 3-meter.
Alaina Heyde took both wins for the women's team with a score of 276.90 in the 3-meter and the 259.10 in the 1-meter.
The Jags will next travel to West Lafayette for the Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Purdue on Saturday, October 11.
