TOLEDO, Ohio – Despite a strong start, the IU Indy men's tennis team dropped a road match at Toledo, 5-2. The Jags jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with the doubles point but fell in singles play to drop the match.
Eli Mercer recorded the sole singles point for IU Indy.
In doubles play, the Jags secured two out of the three matches to earn the doubles point.
Kamil Kozerski and
Noah Viste earned the number two doubles win, 6-4 while
Steven Paz and
Will Thurin took the number three match, 6-2 to secure the early lead.
Konnor Gunwall and
Nate Day were tied 4-4 in the number one spot when the match went unfinished.
After taking the early lead, the Jags moved into singles play. Junior
Eli Mercer recorded the sole singles point for the Jags with a win in the number four spot, 7-6, 6-4.
Kozerski dropped the number one singles match, 7-6, 6-3 while Viste fell in the number two spot, 6-3, 7-6. Paz took his number three match to three sets but ultimately fell, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Konnor Gunwall fell in the number five spot in a hard fought three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.
Pumiphat Sukkho also lost in the number six spot in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
The Jags will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Chicago tomorrow, Sunday, January 26 to face the UIC Flames at 1:00 PM.
