INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's soccer team will kickoff the 2024 campaign on Thursday night (Aug. 15) when the Jaguars host Toledo at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Thursday's contest will be the first official game in any sport under the new IU Indianapolis name. Tickets are just $5 for adults and $2 for kids 12-and-under and will be available at the Stadium, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Head coach
Chris Johnson's team returns significant firepower from a squad that went 11-3-5 overall and 5-1-4 in the Horizon League last season. Forwards
Emma Antoine (5 goals, 10 assists) and
Caroline Kelley (8 goals, 3 assists) lead the charge, but are also surrounded by sophomores
Lindsey Castillo (2 goals, 3 assists),
Shannon Ott (3 goals) and
Avery Bangert (2 goals, 1 assist). The Jaguars return seven starters from last season's team and were recently picked to finish second in the Horizon League in the preseason polls.
In addition, eight returners scored at least one goal last season and two others -
Abbey Renner and
Hannah Roberson - had assists last season.
Senior
Ashton Kudlo (0.95 GAA, 5 ShO) returns as the starter in net and junior defender
Kailyn Smith was a first team All-Horizon League selection a season ago. The Jags will benefit greatly as both
Makenna Collins and
Emma Frey return from injuries as Collins was relegated to just two appearances and Frey missed all of last season. The group of newcomers includes graduate transfers
Emily Keck and
Maia Ransom and freshman midfielder
Bethany Hartigan headlines the group of freshmen.
